A major Brazilian digital infrastructure company engaged CPG to support the development and evaluation of its China supplier base for technically demanding data-center and telecommunications equipment.
Challenges
The client was evaluating China sourcing opportunities across multiple complex equipment categories simultaneously. Prospective suppliers needed to satisfy detailed technical and commercial requirements as well as Brazilian regulatory and certification requirements.
Managing numerous parallel initiatives required extensive supplier research, technical documentation exchange, commercial follow-up, qualification, and coordination between the client’s technical teams and Chinese manufacturers.
CPG Solutions
- Supplier Identification & Qualification: Evaluated more than 30 Chinese suppliers during the initial data-center workstream alone and continued developing additional candidates as the program expanded.
- Technical & Commercial Evaluation: Coordinated detailed technical specifications, supplier questionnaires, quotations, technical clarifications, test requirements, and supporting documentation.
- Supplier Vetting: Evaluated prospective manufacturers based on company background, scale, capabilities, export experience, market position, responsiveness, and suitability for the client’s technical requirements.
- Regulatory & Certification Review: Assessed relevant Brazilian certification and homologation requirements and identified suppliers with existing certifications where available.
- Direct China Engagement: Established and managed communication with suppliers, coordinated technical discussions, and maintained follow-up on open technical and commercial issues.
- Project Management: Maintained structured tracking across numerous simultaneous supplier-development initiatives, giving the client visibility into supplier status, technical reviews, commercial proposals, outstanding information, and qualification decisions.
Results
- Established a qualified China supplier pipeline across multiple mission-critical data-center and telecommunications equipment categories, giving the client viable alternatives to its existing sourcing channels.
- Identified suppliers already meeting relevant Brazilian certification requirements and clarified certification pathways for others, reducing regulatory uncertainty and supplier-onboarding risk.
- Enabled the client’s technical and procurement teams to compare suppliers using a structured combination of technical documentation, commercial proposals, qualification findings, and regulatory considerations.
- Successfully expanded the engagement from an initial focused pilot into an ongoing China supplier-development program covering multiple technical categories.
- Established an on-the-ground supplier management structure capable of supporting numerous concurrent sourcing initiatives and maintaining momentum with Chinese manufacturers.
